Faces of Africa Exhibition
13 November 2010 - 25 November 2010
‘Faces of Africa’ Exhibition 13-25 November Temporary Gallery, Museum & Civic Centre Admission – Free
A taste of Africa comes to Carrickfergus this November as the exhibition ‘Faces of Africa’ will be on display in the Temporary Gallery, Museum and Civic Centre from 13- 25 November.
Rosetta Jallow, who is originally from Carrickfergus and fellow artist Stephen Jamison from Newtownabbey, will show a series of African portraits and carvings intended to educate against racism and raise cultural awareness through art.
Rosetta Jallow left Carrickfergus for Australia in 1974 and has exhibited her work, both locally and internationally. She became interested in painting African portraits when she married a Gambian, which also led to her interest in helping African charities. Rosetta returned to Northern Ireland in 2007 and is once again becoming established as a local artist.
Stephen Jamison is one of Northern Ireland’s successful military modelers having exhibited his models in Ireland, England and USA. He formed a love of the African skin tones and the bright colours of traditional African fabrics and has used them to create very powerful images.
Any sales of the artwork featured in ‘Faces of Africa’ will go towards helping a South African charity called ‘Operation Bobbi Bear’, which exists to rescue of abused children and minimise their risk of HIV infection, as well as the charity ‘SOS Children’s Villages’.
Come along and enjoy a glimpse into the vibrant ‘Faces of Africa’
