  • Local man becomes The Gobbins’ 1,000th visitor

    The Gobbins costal cliff path walk is already celebrating a major milestone, welcoming its 1,000th visitor – appropriately a local man with close family connections over several centuries.

    Thanks to funding from the European Union’s INTERREG IVA Programme, Henry Valentine Bell, retraced his ancestor’s roots as he followed in his footsteps on Wednesday 2nd September, walking the iconic series of suspension tubular bridges, caves, steps and tunnels carved through the spectacular rock face.

  • Borough celebrates Merchant Navy Day

    A special ceremony of remembrance has taken place in the Port of Larne to mark Merchant Navy Day, 3 September.

    Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Port of Larne and P&O Ferries joined forces to hoist the famous Red Ensign to raise awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers.

  • Gobbins’ funders ‘very pleased’

    ​Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has showcased The Gobbins Cliff Path for officials from the Special European Union’s Programmes Body (SEUPB) who co-funded the project.

    The Council displayed Northern Ireland’s most exciting and newly reimagined tourism attraction to the dignitaries who financially supported the project under the EU Interreg IVA Progamme.

    On Merchant Navy Day, 3 September, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council will host, in conjunction with the Port of Larne and P&O Ferries, a ‘Fly the Red Ensign’ Ceremony at the Port of Larne at 10am. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

  • Partnership approach for Mid and East Antrim PCSP

    ​Mid and East Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) held its inaugural meeting last night in Ardeevin, Ballymena.

    Alderman Gregg McKeen said that he was delighted to serve as the first Chairman of the new Mid and East Antrim PCSP.

  • Wartime exhibition to highlight historic recruitment posters

    ​‘Answer the Call’, a free exhibition covering the First World War period with some 40 posters encouraging enlistment as well as others backing ‘home front’ activities, is coming to Mid and East Antrim Borough.

    Featuring original posters, it will open on 10th September in the Council’s Mid-Antrim Museum.

  • TestTown Carrickfergus is welcomed by Mid and East Antrim Borough Mayor

    ​The final preparations are taking place for an innovative business ideas’ project to get underway. The TestTown Carrickfergus pop-up shop at 2 Joymount between 27th - 31st August will provide a unique trading space and grant to help teams develop their ideas and help breathe new life back into town centres at the same time.

  • Blackberries galore at Hedgerow Harvest event

    Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is staging its own version of a ‘hedge school’ in Carrickfergus.

    The ‘Hedgerow Harvest’ event aims to celebrate the humble blackberry and takes place at Eden Allotment Gardens, Carrickfergus, on Sunday 13th September from 2pm-3.30pm.
