Carrickfergus Borough Council endorses Race Equality...
22 November 2010
Race Equality Month will take place during November 2010. It is a province-wide initiative that aims to encourage and support organisations
It is a province-wide initiative that aims to encourage and support organisations to:
- Be free from discrimination and harassment
- Be welcoming to Black and minority ethnic (including Traveller and migrant worker) employees and customers
- Accommodate, make adjustments for and value cultural and linguistic diversity among employees and customers
- Take practical steps to achieve full equality in practice
- Communicate a message promoting greater equality within the wider community
Race Equality Month reflects that fact that migrant workers do not come here simply as economic units to take up jobs but as human beings with entitlements to be treated fairly in all aspects of their life, including accessing housing, education, health services and all other goods, facilities and services as well as in employment.
The main focus of the month is to raise awareness around race equality and to encourage employers and others to develop strategies to achieve equality of opportunity for both employees and customers/service users in our culturally diverse society. Carrickfergus Borough Council has endorsed this initiative and hopes that organisations in the Borough will take advantage of the various opportunities available through the Equality Commission and take the time to pledge support to the Unite Against Hate Campaign
