  • Carrickfergus Mill Ponds Nature Reserve officially opened

    ​Part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s industrial heritage has been reborn as an urban oasis for wildlife.

    Guests gathered at Carrickfergus Mill Ponds on Friday (24th) for the official opening of the site as a nature reserve and saw local children enjoy environmental activities including pond dipping and ‘mini beast’ hunting.

    It is all part of a national campaign called Playday and will see events taking place on Wednesday 5th August from 11am to 3pm in the Marine Gardens in Carrickfergus.

    ​Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is all set to fly the flag for the highest environmental standards.

    Four local locations are being considered for what has long been the benchmark against which parks and green spaces are measured - the Green Flag Award - with the announcement being made this Thursday (23rd) in Antrim.

  • History comes to life ‘through the eye of a needle’ at Carrickfergus Museum

    ​Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is exploring 250 years of history - all viewed through the most basic of sewing tools – the needle.

    The innovative exhibition will take place at Carrickfergus Museum & Civic Centre from 1st August to 29th August 2015 and will examine the sewing needle as one of life’s small everyday essentials.
