Ladies Football Festival matches announced!
Lisa Armour, John Aldridge and Nicky Stevenson

07 July 2009

Former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland striker, John Aldridge, was amongst kindred spirits at the launch of the Carrickfergus International Ladies Football Festival, to announce the draw for the matches which start on Tuesday 28th July at Carrick Rangers FC, Taylors Avenue

This Summer female footballers from the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, United States and  Poland will be converging in Northern Ireland for the annual Carrickfergus International Ladies’ Football Festival, which was recently launched by Liverpool's football legend, John Aldridge.  The tournament will take place from 28 July to 1 August across Carrickfergus grounds at Taylors Avenue, Development Pitch and Haslett Park.

The former Republic of Ireland striker, John Aldridge, was amongst kindred spirits at the launch, as the ladies present knew the true angst and sporting significance of his being the first man to have a penalty kick saved in a Wembley FA Cup Final! The ladies playing this Football Festival plan to call time on the outmoded idea that the only women who have an interest in football - or footballers - are WAGs.

These girls are doin’ it for themselves and the battle for the honours and the silverware is expected to be tougher than ever before with near record entries from some of the strongest female teams around.

Sponsors of the festival include the annual support of Univerity of Ulster's Sporting Academy who've been invovled for the past three years and the new Rayz Beauty Salon at Joymount, who are poised and ready to guive beauty advice as well as tanning and toning advice to players.
