The Wall to Wall History of Carrickfergus
13 August 2012
Did you know that Carrickfergus and Derry/Londonderry are the only two walled towns in Northern Ireland? Why not come and explore the history of the town walls of Carrickfergus this Sunday with a special event organised by Carrickfergus Borough Council to celebrate European Walled Towns Day!
On Sunday 19th of August from 12pm-5pm, Castle Green will be transformed into a medieval camp with knights aplenty, King John and his horse, falconry, crown-making and a blacksmith. At the same time, the Jacobean Knot Garden located just off Joymount will be transformed into an Elizabethan and Williamite camp featuring minstrels, Border Reevers and have-a-go archery. The archaeological specialist, Dr Ruairi O’Baoill, will be leading tours of the town walls leaving from Castle Green at 1pm and again at 3pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
