TREEmendous new school growing area at Woodburn
08 October 2012
Today Alderman May Beattie, Chairperson of the Parks, Countryside & Amenities Sub-Committee visited Woodburn Primary School to view their new school growing area. To celebrate the day, pupils from P5&6 planted five cherry and plum trees donated by Carrickfergus Borough Council.
Alderman May Beattie said "Planting a tree is a very positive thing to do and is great fun. There are plenty of reasons to get planting - it's great exercise, children love it, and you'll be making a valuable contribution to our community woodland."
"Across the Borough there will be lots of opportunities to plant trees in this planting season. National Tree Week (23rd November - 1st December 2012) is an annual festival to mark the start of the tree planting season, and a nationwide celebration of trees and woods. National Tree Week is a great chance for communities to do something positive for their local treescape. To celebrate National Tree Week, Carrickfergus Borough Council is inviting everyone to help make trees matter by planting and celebrating trees in National Tree Week. We would like to hear from any group or individual that would like to take part in National Tree Week. Visit our website for further details: www.carrickfergus.org/treeweek."
