15 October 2012
Carrickfergus Borough Council is delivering an exciting regeneration initiative in Whitehead. A Shop Front Improvement Scheme will be implemented to assist commercial property owners to improve the facade of their premises. The scheme will also be extended to allow for community facilities to avail of exterior improvements enhancing the overall appearance of Whitehead.
Carrickfergus Borough Council in partnership with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive is offering grant aid to commercial property owners within the scheme boundary to improve and enhance the facade of their properties. Discretionary grant aid is available for up to £1,750 per property with property owners required to provide 12.5% match funding up to a maximum of £250 per property.
Alderman William Ashe, Chair of Whitehead Regeneration Group, explains "The Shop Front Improvement Scheme will improve the village appearance of rundown properties and some vacant buildings".
The Shop Front Improvement Scheme provides the opportunity for property owners within the scheme boundary to contribute to the ongoing physical and economic regeneration of Whitehead. By visibly enhancing the village core and improving local economic infrastructure, the Shop Front Improvement Scheme will hopefully encourage new business creation.
Property owners of most commercial businesses & community facilities within the scheme boundary are eligible to apply. The scheme will support painting of most elements of the building including frontages and prominent elevations, some minor works and virtual window displays.
