Winner of Creative Writing Competition

25 March 2010

Local student Ronnie McQuillan wins 'Siege of Carrickfergus' creative writing competition.

As part of the "Siege of Carrickfergus" project funded jointly by Carrickfergus Borough Council and The Heritage Lottery Fund the Council ran a creative writing competition for young people during 2009. The Council is pleased to announce that the winner of the competition was local student Ronnie McQuillan.

The overall object of the project was to raise the profile of the important events of 1689 when the Duke of Schomberg laid siege to the town. The project included lectures, local community planning and the dramatic recreation of the siege by re enactors from across Europe. The project sought to inspire local people to find out more about their local heritage and the creative writing competition was successful in inspiring young people to combine real historical events and their imagination of how life would have been in Carrickfergus over 300 years ago.

We hope you enjoy the winning article... THE TOWN HE NEVER KNEW
