It is my great honour to again be elected First Citizen of the Borough of Carrickfergus. Our long, rich history is one which I cherish and will seek to promote and enhance over the coming months.
I have been closely involved in a number of Council-led projects which have significantly added to facilities in our area and served to boost our civic pride. Examples include our excellent Community Centres, the European Blue Flag award to the Marina, the introduction of Council Open Days and the achievement of the nationally prized Charter Mark by Council’s Cleansing and Building Maintenance Sections.
|
It will be my privilege to lead the Council as we seek to add still further to these achievements during my term of office. I foresee exciting developments in relation to town centre re-generation and the delivery of further Peace monies for local projects. No doubt the District Policing Partnership will continue to make a very constructive contribution to the improvement of our environment as Council representatives and individuals from the community work in close association with our local police. With a strong track record on Ulster in Bloom we will endeavour to present Carrickfergus in its traditional floral splendour, to attract further success.
I am very conscious that Council looks to our many community groups to help us in so many areas of activity. I plan to meet many such groups over the coming months in order to further develop the benefits of partnership working.
I look forward with great enthusiasm to my year of office during which I hope to meet and work with a wide cross section of the people in our Borough.
