Town Centre

Carrickfergus town centre is a flourishing business district, with a healthy blend of local outlets and national chains supporting a thriving retail network.
The aim of the Borough Council is to enhance this economic dynamic and to create an environment in which communities live and work together, with equal access to jobs and services.
The Economic Development Section supports local economic drives, with town centre regeneration being one of its key priorities. A comprehensive strategy plan is being written to provide the Town Centre with a long term vision, encompassing improvement plans for the High Street, Marine Highway, and the wider area. This will complement the recently released draft of the Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan (BMAP).

The Economic Development section coordinates many different approaches to town centre regeneration. Among its key tasks are the following:
- Developing links with the local business community and Carrickfergus Chamber of Commerce
- Improving the physical environment
- Improving the economic prosperity of the area
- Ensure all funding opportunities are fully exploited.
- Working with Environment & Heritage Service to promote Carrickfergus Castle

The Economic Development section has made a number of achievements to date:
- Introduction of annual Carrickfergus Business Awards scheme.
- Comprehensive training program designed for Owner/Managers & staff of Carrickfergus businesses.
- Introduction of RadioLink system for Town Centre for enhanced safety and community spirit.
