A Buoyant Economy

Today, Carrickfergus is a thriving economic hub and in this section of our website you will be able to review the region’s key economic indicators, find out more about our excellent rating policy and identify the key figures within the Council.

You will also learn about our local Business Awards and discover how Local Strategic Partnerships are benefiting the Borough. Carrickfergus is a prime location in which to invest and develop your business. It is strategically situated within the greater Belfast area, Northern Ireland’s key economic hub, and provides access to key gateways by air (Belfast International and George Best City airports) and by sea (Port of Belfast and Port of Larne) – all of which are within 30 minutes drive. It is also served by a well developed motorway and rail infrastructure.

The Borough has three large industrial zones, comprising:

  • Carrickfergus Industrial Centre
  • Kilroot Industrial Park
  • Trooperslane Industrial Estate

Collectively, they offer over 400 acres of zoned land, with large and small units. As a result of such factors, Carrickfergus is currently the preferred location for a range of blue chip companies from across the Die Casting, Distribution, Electronics, Energy and Mineral production sectors.

Economic Development

The key thrust of Carrickfergus Borough Council’s economic activities is to support sustainable economic growth in the Borough and to regenerate the town centre. To this end, the Council has established an Economic Development Section, whose role it is to promote the well being of the Borough through a co-ordinated approach to development.
