Protecting, Nurturing and Caring for our Environment

The Scores on the Doors food hygiene rating scheme will score local food businesses including shops, restaurants, bars and even schools on the how well they are complying with food hygiene legislation. The results will be in the form of a star rating, the greater number of stars the higher the standards. The star ratings will be available here from Monday 5th November. click here

In Carrickfergus, we are fortunate to live in a region that combines a wonderful blend of land, sea and air into a rich, wholesome place to live, work and relax. We all have a role to play in protecting, nurturing and caring for our environment, so that it may be passed on to future generations to enjoy.  The core ethos that underpins Carrickfergus Borough Council’s environmental strategy is:          Caring for our environment and creating a sustainable, clean and healthy living space for all.

It is vital that we adopt an integrated approach to environmental protection, and so monitoring, conservation and awareness raising is required to ensure that we all - government, industry and society - live up to our environmental responsibilities.

Carrickfergus Borough Council will continue to play a leadership role in protecting the high quality of the region’s natural resources and will work to fostering a sense of environmental responsiblity among its citizens to ensure that the rich fabric of our local environment is appreciated and protected.

Allotments: Plotting your own fresh fruit and vegetables (1st April 2008)

Ever dreamt of growing your own fruit, vegetables and flowers? Is your garden too small? Children won’t let you dig up their playground? We can help! Carrickfergus Borough Council will be opening allotments for rent at Eden Playing Fields (Beltoy Road) this coming summer. We can find large or small plots to suit your needs for a very reasonable annual rent. Allotments are a great way to relax and unwind from the stresses of modern living.

They are a good way of producing healthy delicious fruit and vegetables at a relatively low cost and you could produce them organically if you wanted too. Allotments are also an effective way to make friends with people who share your interest in gardening. You will also be doing your bit for the environment by reducing the pollution associated with the transportation and packaging of shop bought food.
