Whatever your sporting interests may be, Carrickfergus has more than enough facilities to keep you active. And wherever you go, you’ll be bowled over by the beautiful scenery and spectacular coastline of this part of Co. Antrim. Take your pick from the following:

  • Indoor sport– The modernisation of Carrickfergus Leisure Centre will create an exciting new leisure facility as a lasting legacy to the Borough’s ratepayers.  This will be an exciting transformation for the Borough’s premier leisure facility and will undoubtedly enhance the existing service provision, promoting access for all.  Carrickfergus Borough Council is prepared to spend up to £5 million to upgrade the existing facility and has appointed architect W M Given to conduct the transformation.  Plans include the creation of a brand new fitness suite, on par with those in the private sector, introduction of a family changing area, extensive modernisation of the approach entrance to the building and the creation of new halls and conference facilities.  In addition, plans also include he relocation of the café as a larger facility and the creation of a soft play area for the younger generation.  The exterior façade of the building will undergo significant modernisation.
  • Angling – freshwater fishing at seven reservoirs and sea fishing from piers and shoreline.
  • Golf – four top courses to choose from and something for every level of golfer.
  • Carrickfergus Borough Council manages three superb Bowling Greens within the Borough at Shaftesbury Park, Greenisland Playing Fields and at Islandmagee Road.
  • Sailing – Belfast Lough is on our doorstep.
  • Scenic walks – Sometimes it’s hard to beat the simple pleasure of a brisk walk and the Borough's exquisite gardens and parks offer tranquil refuges, far from the madding crowd.
  • Play areas – Carrickfergus Borough has over a dozen safe secure play areas for kids of all ages.
