After 27 years, a major capital investment is planned for Carrickfergus Leisure Centre reflecting Carrickfergus Borough Council’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all its citizens and providing the most up-to-date, state of the art leisure facilities.

The modernisation of Carrickfergus Leisure Centre will create an exciting new leisure facility as a lasting legacy to the Borough’s ratepayers.  This will be an exciting transformation for the Borough’s premier leisure facility and will undoubtedly enhance the existing service provision, promoting access for all.

Carrickfergus Borough Council is prepared to spend up to £5 million to upgrade the existing facility and has appointed architect W M Given to conduct the transformation.  Plans include the creation of a brand new fitness suite, on par with those in the private sector, introduction of a family changing area, extensive modernisation of the approach entrance to the building and the creation of new halls and conference facilities.  In addition, plans also include he relocation of the café as a larger facility and the creation of a soft play area for the younger generation.  The exterior façade of the building will undergo significant modernisation as evident in the artist’s impression of what the building might look like (see above).

Lengthy consultation has been ongoing with current facility users and all feedback has been taken onboard in finalising the plans for the extensive upgrade.

The full plans are on view at Carrickfergus Leisure Centre and further information can be obtained by contacting the leisure centre – t. 028 9335 1711.
